SUMMARY
Dr. P. Concepcion received her PhD degree in chemistry in 1996 at the Polytecnic University of Valencia (UPV). From 1997-1998 she worked with Prof. Schlögl as postdoctoral in the Fritz-Haber-Institut der Max-Planck-Geselschaft, Berlin (Germany), and from 1998-1999 in the Institut für Physikalische Chemie, LMU, München (Germany) with Prof. H. Knözinger. In 1999 she returned to Valencia (Spain) and worked at the Instituto de Tecnologia Quimica with a contract of the UPV and in 2002 she promoted to Tenured Scientist at the CSIC (Spain). In 2002 she stayed for 6 months in Universidad la Sapienza (Italia) working in the group of Prof. Moretti. In 2021 she promoted to a Scientist Researcher at the CSIC. Her actual research is in the field of heterogeneous catalysis, specifically directed to the synthesis, characterization and catalytic properties of metal oxide, metal nanoparticles, clusters and single metal sites, as well as hybrid materials based on metal encapsulated in host materials like zeolites, metal organic framework and carbon matrix. The goal of her work is to determine structural- activity correlations of solid catalysts with applications in several reactions, like selective hydrogenation and oxidation, C-C, C-N coupling, Fischer Tropsch, partial oxidation and ammoxidation of alkanes, methanol steam reforming and CO2 hydrogenation to fuels and chemicals. In the last years, she has worked in the CO2 valorization, targeting the design of new materials containing subnanometer metal clusters and single metal sites with tailored active sites and high intrinsic activity. She has a strong background in “in situ” and operando spectroscopy, specifically in infrared, X-ray photoelectron and Raman spectroscopy, and has collaboration with the Spanish Synchrotron Facility ALBA being involved in a long-term project sharing a PhD student (2015-2020) and with researcher of other Synchrotron Facilities. She has participated as IP in more than 20 standard proposal for analysis in European Synchrotron Facilities, and collaborate with international groups specialized in kinetic studies and advanced spectroscopic studies in the frame of several international projects. She is author or co-author of more than 230 publications published in high impact scientific journals, with a h-index of 75 (Web of science, 2025), co-inventor of 7 patents, 2 licensed to the international company CATALER Corporation, and author of 3 book chapter. She has participated in several projects from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, Government of the Generalitat Valenciana and the European Union (Horizon 2020) and in several contracts with the Industry (CEPSA, UOP, etc.). She developed the “in situ”/”operando” spectroscopy research line at ITQ, and is involved in the direction of 6 master, 8 PhD and 3 postdoc students. Since 2006 she participated in the Master Universitario en Quimica Sostenible (course: “Caracterización de Sólidos Inorgánicos”) and in the course of “Tecnicas de Laboratorio”, (“Introducción al análisis de datos de XPS”) and in scientific dissemination talks in schools.
